Brio’s Private Chef Night Returns!

Imagine the delicious aroma and sizzle of Italian cuisine drifting from your kitchen ... and it's not you cooking!  After menu consultation and selection, executive chef Kevin Rodewald will prepare a five course dinner with wine for eight people in your home.  All this and a server could be yours for an evening of elegant entertainment. Dale Carnegie could have written an entire chapter on this item in “How To Win Friends And Influence People!”

3-D Raised Plaster Rainbow Tree
Ms. Crawford’s Upper Elementary Art Class

Last year, one of our students created this beautiful painting of an Indian Banyan tree which the Auction Team liked so much, we used its image as part of our logo for this year’s auction fundraiser. Now, the Upper Elementary students have recreated this painting, originally by resident artist and TCS art teacher Kristin Crawford, as though looking at the original through a prism. Vibrating colors highlight the negative space, while raised plaster textures make the branches reach right out of the canvas to embrace you.

Illustrative: Horton Hears A Who
created by Mrs. Nathani’s Lower Elementary Class

This custom-matted and framed collection of interpretive paintings is an incredible visual retelling of Dr. Seuss’ endearing "Horton Hears A Who"! Each child recreated an illustrated page from the book, then these pages were mounted in order to recount the story from beginning to end. A special thanks to Art House for working with Mrs. Nathani’s students on this project. Proudly display this piece on your wall - because your speck is a person, no matter how small!

Van Gogh’s "Sunflowers"
created by Mrs. Schmidt’s Casa/Primary Class

These darling upturned blossoms greet the light each day as true reflections of the children who crafted them. Monet "Houses of Parliament" Quilt
created by Ms. Todd’s Casa/Primary Class

This stunning hand-decorated quilt is made up of individual reproductions of Monet’s "Houses of Parliament", as interpreted by the children using fabric paint. This amazing wall hanging captures the energy of young Montessori minds grasping art, history, use of space and color in the joyous spirit of saluting one another’s efforts. Even the background fabric reflects Monet’s impressions of the foggy filtered colors of London’s sun-showered skies!

Pop Art: Andy Warhol Self Portraits
Mrs. Riordan’s Class

Andy Warhol was well-known for creating ink images of photographic-quality cultural icons (like Marilyn Monroe and Campbell’s soup cans) with slight color alterations. The children explored this artistic technique by painting over their own photographs. Each self portrait is captured in custom matting and framing to finish this genuinely eye-catching piece.

3-D Interpretation of Van Gogh’s Starry Night
Ms. Crawford’s Upper School Art Class

Commenting on post-impressionist master Van Gogh’s later works, one New York Times art critic observed, we can see him "pitting his colors against one another as if they were antagonists in a visual drama." In this piece, the Upper School students not only experiment with this interplay of contrasting colors, but also with a dimensional comment on the dramatic nature of this moving piece (see the archetypal thespian masks leaping out of the picture?)

M.C. Escher Influenced Stained Glass Windows
All Lower Elementary Students

M.C. Escher worked in many mediums, including architecture, structure/sculptures, woodcut blocks, and lithography. In this work, the children explored both Renaissance and graphic art techniques to recreate the look of stained glass. Each student painted lithographic style images directly on old windows to craft this primordial piece. The assembled piece makes for a striking window treatment or a well-lit wall display as created under Ms. Crawford’s direction in her classroom.

Jackson Pollack Inspired Painting
All Primary Students

Abstract expressionist Jackson Pollack was best known for his abandonment of working with traditional painting materials. He invented what has become known as "action painting," which involved using his entire body as he stood over a canvas positioned on the floor. He worked with free-flowing liquid paints and a variety of improvised tools, including basting syringes, stiff brushes, and even sticks to drip and pour the paint onto the canvas. Enjoy the children’s interpretative application of "Jack the Dripper’s" technique in this stunning 3’ X 4’ latex painting as created under Ms. Crawford’s direction in her classroom.

Illustrative: The Cat In The Hat
Mrs. Nathani’s Lower Elementary Class

This custom-matted and framed collection of interpretive paintings is an incredible visual retelling of Dr. Seuss’ beloved "The Cat In The Hat"! Each child recreated an illustrated page from the book, then these pages were mounted in order to recount the story from beginning to end. A special thanks to Art House for working with Mrs. Nathani’s students on this project. You can hang it by the stairs. You can hang it anywhere!

Jackson Pollack Inspired Painting
All Casa Students

Pollock studied Native American sand art and surrealism before developing his famous "drip" technique. He called it a fusion of controllable with uncontrollable elements - an appropriate analogy for life! These arresting desert colors pirouette and cascade to achieve a remarkably balanced effect. Enjoy the children’s interpretative application of "Jack the Dripper’s" abstract expressionism in this stunning 3’ X 4’ latex painting as created under Ms. Crawford’s direction in her classroom.

Georgia O’Keefe’s "Oriental Poppy" (circa 1928)
Dr. Miller’s Upper Elementary Class

A vibrant interpretation of O’Keefe’s lilting, scarlet blossoms in boiled wool. This masterpiece was crafted from dyed, saturated merino wool roving which the children rolled out with a dowel, stretched and shaped by hand, then layered to create a three-dimensional effect.  The finished work may be hung like a tapestry. This piece truly mirrors the bold, blooming beauty of our Upper Elementary youth.

Kandinsky’s "Quiet Harmony" Inspired Quilt
Miss Marshall’s Casa/Primary Class

Breathe in the harmony of shifting shapes awash in rich, antiqued tones as they dance across this lushly quilted tapestry! For this amazing work, each child skillfully constructed geometric metal insets utilizing Montessori materials and principles. The entire composition was then assembled onto a larger fabric, texturized with handbeading, then quilted together into this masterpiece.

Kandinsky "Study of Squares"
Mrs. Brohi’s Casa/Primary Class

This Kandinsky piece just naturally lends itself to Montessori-inspired exploration! Each child painted brilliantly-hued acrylic circles on 8" X 8" square canvases. The twenty completed geometrical works were then mounted on a trellis-backed, floating frame. Kandinsky could "hear" the musical vibration of each color in his palette as he painted. Can you hear the song composed by Mrs. Brohi’s students in this piece?

Georgia O’Keefe Inspired Potting Bench
Mrs. Chase’s Lower Elementary Class

Georgia O’Keefe said, "Nobody sees a flower, really, it is so small. We haven't time, ...to see takes time like to have a friend takes time." Take time to enjoy the flowers created by Mrs. Chase’s students on this lovingly crafted potting bench. Each tile on the backsplash depicts a flower painted by one of the children, while the work surface flaunts brilliantly unfolding florals hand painted in the O’Keefe tradition. What better place to make friends with your flowers?
